Founded in 1989 by Denise L’estrange-Corbet and Francis Hooper, WORLD is the first truly progressive fashion brand to come out of New Zealand. Designing and hand making each collection here in New Zealand. Opening in a small space in Auckland CBD, they were soon the first NZ brand to be invited to show internationally at official Fashion Weeks in London, Sydney, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Singapore, Paris and Auckland.
WORLD has broken the glass ceiling as a brand of ‘firsts’ having achieved accolades not seen before in New Zealand fashion. WORLD’s philosophy has always been about design and quality, and their collections sit in the museums in Auckland, Te Papa, Wellington, National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. WORLD was awarded with the first dedicated retrospective of a New Zealand fashion label at the Auckland Memorial Museum, opened by then Prime Minister Helen Clarke, in 2005.
The WORLD brand epitomises design excellence with their fabric choice and hand finishes, which customers have come to expect. Production is still in New Zealand, the country the brand was founded, as the team believe in supporting their supporters and the local industry. Whilst WORLD has always been an emporium of ideas including the realm of beauty the WORLD Beauty concept wasn’t defined until 2006 and has grown to include rare perfumes, exquisite skincare, luxury candles alongside object d’art from every corner of the globe, all collectable and desirable, all bearing the WORLD logo of quality and collectability. Many of the brands hold incredible historical significance Cire Trudon candles made in France since 1643, Santa Maria Novella apothecary skincare founded in 1621 in Florence, perfumes created for Jacqueline Kennedy and Grace Kelly amongst many contemporary revolutionaries of scent and skincare.
WORLD has 6 locations across New Zealand. 3 in Auckland and 1 in Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown, as well as an online store and wholesale clients across the globe.
